#TheReadingQuest Sign Up!

TRQ Sign Up

Drumroll, chicken nuggets! The time has come.. for me to embark on my first ever reading challenge!

My dear blogger friend, pioneer of diverse books and all-around mage, Aentee at Read at Midnight is hosting a reading challenge called #TheReadingQuest and I can’t tell you how excited I am for it!

From Aentee’s post:

I invite you to join me on a reading adventure based entirely on a video-game quest. In this challenge, you’ll be embarking on a journey to conquer your TBR pile through a series of stages. You’ll read new stories, gain experience, and level up a character of your choosing.

This challenge will run from Aug 13 to Sept 10. Sign ups are still open until Aug 13 so hurry up if you are want to be a part of the fun!

Here goes, are you ready to meet my character for #TheReadingQuest? Yes?

Before that, have you noticed how flipping adorable these little characters are? We have no one to thank for these glorious characters but my beloved jie, CW at Read, Think, Ponder who is an absolute star and her artworks are fan-f*cking-tastic.

Character Class

Well, say hello and throw some magicky glitter on me.

It’s Kevin the Mage!

Kevin the Mage

Following The Quest Board, my destiny takes me to a perilous journey where I will be traversing to different worlds, explore mythologies and fret not, it shall be filled with magic—I am buzzing with excitement from thinking about it!

Quest Board

Since I am partaking in my quest as a Mage, I will have to complete the following quests to advance to other characters’ quest (if I have the time to do so!)

For the time being, this list is tentative so I might update it once I’ve decided what to read!

The First Book of a Series: And I Darken by Kiersten White [completed!]

EXP: 10EXP, HP: 51

I went book shopping last week and I decided to pick up And I Darken since my copy of Zodiac is back home and I am so excited to start #TheReadingQuest!

I’ve heard great things and not-so great things about And I Darken but I am really excited to see how I like it!

A Book Set in a Different World: Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas [currently reading]

I am a huge SJM fan and I wouldn’t want to not include one of her books in my first ever reading challenge!

Hand on heart, I only liked Chaol in Crown of Midnight but I hope my feelings for the former Captain of the Guard will change after reading Tower of Dawn!

TLoF

A Book Based on Mythology: The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana [completed!]

EXP: 20EXP, HP: 35

I was in the mood for something with lush and rich writing. So I decided to swap The Epic Crush of Genie Lo and read that as a book with magic so I could make way for The Library of Fates!

TECOGL

A Book that Contains Magic: The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee [completed!]

EXP: 20EXP, HP: 33

Oh, my Guanyin! I have heard nothing but amazing things about The Epic Crush of Genie Lo from my beloved blogger friends, including Aentee and CW — my darling “big sisters”. I ordered it from Book Depository and it’s making its way over to me as I type this! I CAN’T WAIT.

It’s inspired by Chinese mythology and folklore which includes Sun Wukong, the Monkey King! I don’t know about you mere mortals but honey, I am so ready to get down on this. It is so on.

RB

A Book with a One-Word Title: RoseBlood by A.G. Howard [completed!]

EXP: 10EXP, HP: 43

My deepest apologies to my eternal moonbeam and Leo twinsie, Mish at Chasing Faerytales who was so thrilled when I told her that I’d chosen Vicious as my book for this quest. I adore Schwab’s books and I can’t wait to read what Mish claims as “her best book”!

But I decided to pick up RoseBlood instead because I was in the mood for something romantic!

Here are some of the side quests that I am considering:

Will update this list as I go! Stay tuned.

Open World [any book of choice]: They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera [completed!]

EXP: 20EXP, HP: 38

I have been a fan of Adam Silvera ever since I read More Happy Than Not and I was chasing a deadline to review They Both Die at the End, so I went with this for Open World! Best decision ever.

BYLTHM

Potions [a book written by 2+ authors]: Because You Love to Hate Me, edited by Ameriie

For this one, I am planning to read the short story anthology Because You Love to Hate Me, featuring authors like Adam Silvera, Victoria Schwab, Renee Ahdieh and other amazing YA authors!

12book "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller

Time Warp [a book set in the past/future]: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I am really excited to finally have the motivation to read The Song of Achilles, which I believe is one of Aentee’s favourite books.

I heard it’s also quite steamy in some parts of the book, so I guess I am ready for some male-male action—I am not a pervert though. HAHA.

Valiant

Respawn [a book I DNFed]: Valiant by Lesley Livingston

I am ashamed to admit that I DNFed Valiant by Lesley Livingston. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds absolutely phenomenal but I made it past the 100 pages when I read it but I wasn’t feeling it. I hope I do like it when I try it again!

Multiplayer [buddy read a book with someone]

Grind [a book with >500 pages]

Animal Companion [a book referencing an animal in the title]

  1. I can’t wait to join this Read-A-Thon, I love your TBR Kevin, it looks absolutely fantastic!

I can’t wait to see what you think of all your books, I haven’t read any of them currently but I definitely want to squeeze in Because You Love To Hate Me if I have time!

    1. I really hope I can finish reading all the books I’ve chosen–it might be a bit ambitious since it’s my first reading challenge but fingers crossed that I do!
