ATPOYA Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

Blurb:
Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their groundbreaking achievements. Their most astonishing invention, called the Firebird, allows users to jump into multiple universes—and promises to revolutionize science forever. But then Marguerite’s father is murdered, and the killer—her parent’s handsome, enigmatic assistant Paul— escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite refuses to let the man who destroyed her family go free. So she races after Paul through different universes, always leaping into another version of herself. But she also meets alternate versions of the people she knows—including Paul, whose life entangles with hers in increasingly familiar ways. Before long she begins to question Paul’s guilt as well as her own heart. And soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is far more sinister than she expected.

I’ve seen Claudia Gray’s new series around for some time now. Even when A Thousand Pieces of You first released in 2014, but I don’t know why – I might have to club myself for this – I never thought of picking it up. Which is why I feel like clobbering myself because words can’t really describe how much I loved A Thousand Pieces of You. Like, I was so completely taken by the entire concept of the book, I thought about it constantly when I was reading it. The book – the characters, the plot and everything – stayed on my mind even when I wasn’t reading it.

A Thousand Pieces of You is the first book in the Firebird series, which follows the story of Marguerite Caine, the daughter of scientists who travel across different dimensions in pursuit of the quiet, aloof, almost-Mr Darcy-esque character in the book, Paul, who killed her father and escaped to another dimension with Marguerite’s parent’s creation: the Firebird. In other words, A Thousand Pieces of You is a story of a young girl who dimension travels to avenge the death of her father and gets to be a fashion designer, kiss a dashing guy and save the day. If only it were that simple, I tell you. You have to read A Thousand Pieces of You because it’s just so good.

I loved the whole sci-fi element in the book because it was so cool and the concept of travelling to another dimension by transferring your conscience into the body of the “you” in that specific dimension is just amazing. Claudia Gray truly amazed me with this because it’s like nothing I’ve read before. It’s refreshing and it kept my inner geek happy with the whole dimension travelling lark.

The romance in the book is truly swoonworthy, I loved the love triangle between Marguerite, Paul and Theo. The characters were written quite interestingly because everyone is different in every dimension Marguerite travels to and I don’t wish to spoil it for you. I was totally enraptured by the dimensions that were explored and beautifully described by Claudia Gray.

All in all, I was hugely impressed by A Thousand Pieces of You and I am stoked that I got the sequel, Ten Thousand Skies Above You with me. And, have you seen the cover of the final book in the trilogy, A Million Worlds With You? Covergasm, I tell you. So what are you waiting for? I recommend you to read the Firebird series because I have already fallen in love with the first book and I have a strong feeling that the other books in the trilogy would be awesome.
